The challenge
Off-grid sites — telecom towers, camps, and remote outposts — depend on power that runs unattended with minimal service visits. Every maintenance trip is expensive. HTX air-cooled engines and compact generator sets are built for simplicity, low maintenance, and self-sufficient operation far from infrastructure.
What an off-grid site asks of a generator
A remote site has two kinds of load. Some run all the time at a low level: a telecom base station, a radio, a fridge, lights. Others come and go: a water pump, a workshop tool, a kitchen.
A conventional set runs at full speed even when the load is small. At light load it burns fuel for nothing and can suffer wet stacking. An inverter set slows the engine down when the load drops, which saves fuel on long, light duty.
The real cost at a remote site is the trip. Every refuelling and every service visit takes a vehicle and a day. So plan fuel, oil and filters by running hours before you order, not after.

Request QuotePlanning fuel and service at a remote site
- Fuel autonomy. Small sets carry 12.5 to 30 L tanks, enough for hours, not days. For a site that runs unattended, plan an external tank or a refuelling routine. Tell us how many days the set must run alone and we will advise the setup.
- Service by hours. Oil every 100 hours, oil and fuel filters every 200 to 300 hours. A set running 24 hours a day reaches 100 hours in about four days. Send spare filters and oil with the first shipment. See the maintenance schedule.
- Light load. If the set will run most of the time below 30% load, choose an inverter set or a smaller conventional set. See what variable engine speed buys you.
- Automatic start. Our electric-start models can take an ATS or remote start, so the set runs only when the batteries or the grid need it.
- Fuel quality. Remote fuel is often stored in drums. Water and dirt in diesel damage injectors. See can bad diesel damage your engine.
Questions off-grid buyers ask
How long can a diesel generator run unattended at a remote site?
As long as the fuel and the oil last. The built-in tanks on small sets last hours, so a site that runs alone for days needs an external tank. The oil limit is about 100 running hours between changes.
Is an inverter generator better for an off-grid site?
When the load is light most of the time, yes. An inverter set slows the engine at light load, so it uses less fuel and avoids wet stacking. For steady loads near full power, a conventional set does the same job.
What size generator does a small telecom site need?
Many small base stations and repeaters draw 2 to 4 kW. Add the air-conditioning or the battery charger if the generator also feeds them. A 3.0 to 6.5 kVA inverter set covers many small sites.
How often does a remote diesel generator need service?
Oil and an air-filter check every 100 running hours, filters every 200 to 300 hours, and valve clearance every 500 hours. At 24 hours a day, plan a visit about every four days, or reduce running hours with batteries.
